Welcome to the Review Raiders, where we defend the honor of some of our favorite establishments from the savage judgment of the internet. In other words, we’re taking irrational restaurant reviews and giving them some constructive feedback. Now, let us be clear—we wholeheartedly believe in freedom of speech (and taste), which is precisely why we feel inclined to exercise our own. Every 1-star review has its story, and every story deserves a happy rebuttal.
The Raiders had the pleasure of grubbing down at the Bender Bar & Grill for a night of classic burgers and easy ambiance. What we discovered, first and foremost, is that this is a place that keeps things simple. And you know what? Simple is good! Formidable beer selection, notably bomb food, and a staff vibe that feels like you’re hangin’ out with old friends. Needless to say, we were big fans. Some other folks were not—which again, totally okay, but maybe we can help provide a littttttttle bit of balance.
Ah, I know what “odor” she’s referring to. It’s an odor as old as time. An odor that reminds us that it’s okay to have a couple cold ones and laugh about something stupid. An odor that breaks down social barriers, even if that means talking to some lady named Wanda at the bar for 3 hours about how your ex wasn’t the one all along. It’s the odor of (yep, you guessed it) a bar. I friggin’ love that smell. And you know what I love more? Taking colossal bites out of my colossal chicken sandwich with a colossal side of enjoyment. Side note: I can confirm after taking down 3 glasses that their water is fresh AF.
Hmmmmm. If by grimy he means an establishment with sense of identity and authenticity that seeps into every aspect of the experience, then heck yeah it was grimy. Upon ordering my first beer (shout out to 512 IPA, putting the hop in hops) (feel free to use that tagline) I was engaged not just as a customer, but as a peer. And I’d rather be served by a down-to-earth, down-to-hang, down-to-stay-quiet-if-needed bartender 8 out of 7 days a week, every week. Definitely not a waste of my time, definitely would “come back again.”
