Job Description
Barley & Board is hiring a qualified Cook to join our team in Denton, TX now. As a cook on our back of house staff, you'll set up your station in the kitchen and participate in food prep. You should be passionate about putting out consistent, quality food and seeking opportunities to learn and grow in the kitchen. You should be able to follow recipes and take direction from the Chef or Sous Chef and also explore your creativity where appropriate. You welcome the fast paced, often hectic restaurant kitchen environment and are, above all, a team player.
Responsibilities
- Cook food in a variety of ways
- Prepare ingredients
- Possess a solid sense of timing
- Set up workstations with ingredients and cooking equipment
- Keep a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen
- Monitor stock and place orders for shortages

When searching for the perfect location to unveil the culinary talents and aesthetic artistry that is Barley & Board, embracing Denton’s rich history was a key factor in selecting a location. The building in which Barley & Board resides was once the Lacy Hotel, the first hotel built in Denton County in 1858 by Charles Christian Lacy. Lacy, a Public Land Surveyor, named the original streets of Denton, including Oak, Hickory, Locust, and Elm. The original brick interior walls were carefully excavated and brought back to life helping tell the story of Denton's past. To showcase our personal design inspirations, we turned to local artisans to bring the richness of our diverse community together.
The restaurant is the culmination of creativity, hard work, and tenacity from a team whose driving force is centered on community, craft, and collaboration. The menu showcases a New-American style cuisine, offering an array of small and large plates. Featuring a full bar that includes 36 beers on tap, which highlight Texas breweries, this fine gastropub offers in-house brews as well as a nice selection of wines and hand-crafted cocktails.
